The 'set_linewidth' method is defined in a base class (Collections). By clicking on the link at the top of the LineCollection class where it says:
Bases: matplotlib.collections.Collection <http://matplotlib.sourceforge.net/api/collections_api.html?highlight=linecollection#matplotlib.collections.Collection>
you can get to these methods.
The docs are written this way to reduce duplication of content.
