Is it possible to cut out a peace of an axes, as shown in the attached mockup.
This could typically be used if you have some important data in the interval
[0,6] and some other important data in another interval [30,40] as shown in
the figure.

A split axis like that has been requested before, but there is no built-in facility for it. You could get this effect with some programming by using two Axes objects, sharing the Y-axis, and manually making the axis lines, ticks, and labels. Maybe someone has done this and will reply with an example.
