GSoC Introduction Template

Hi folks!

Thanks for your interest in GSoC and wanting to improve Matplotlib. For us to offer you constructive feedback or guidance on which issues/pull requests/parts of the code base are a good place for you to start, please provide the following information:

  • What do you use Matplotlib for? What sorts of visualizations do you make? Any specific domain? for example: sports, climate science, high energy physics, etc.
    • Are you interested in any part of the Matplotlib API specifically? for example: text, 3D, color mapping?
  • Which GSoC project are you interested in working on? IndirectTransform, Overlay, a custom proposal?
    • Do you have experience/domain knowledge relevant to the project?
  • What’s your programming experience? How many years, which languages, what sorts of projects?

While you do not necessarily need answers to these questions to be a contributor, we have found that our most successful GSoC participants have a real world use case (need) for the project they are implementing.

If you are unable to answer these questions, please come talk to us at Chat #Incubator about why you’re applying to GSoC.

Please do not use do not use AI at all when answering and we recommend that you not use AI when preparing your pull request. If we are considering working with a student for the summer, we want to first see how they think and communicate as a person.
