GSoC 2026: Seeking guidance for contributing to matplotlib animations

Hi everyone,

I’m Kumar, a third-year BTech student in Data Science, interested in contributing to matplotlib for GSoC 2026.

I have recently started contributing and submitted a PR improving the animation documentation (specifically adding a Jupyter notebook example). I am currently exploring more contributions related to animations and documentation.

I would appreciate guidance on:

- How to deepen my contributions in this area

- Which parts of the codebase or issues are good to focus on next

- Any recommended approach for preparing a strong GSoC proposal
