GSoC 2026 - Indirect Transforms: Reusable Positioning API

Hi everyone! I’m Aman Parganiha, a M.Tech student at IIIT Naya Raipur. I’ve submitted a GSoC 2026 proposal for the Indirect Transforms project — factoring out coordinate systems from the Annotation API into a reusable IndirectTransform class.

I have open source experience contributing to JupyterLab (docs PR #18668, Playwright tests PR #18610). I’m excited to apply these skills to matplotlib.

I’m also planning to work on issue #26620 (legend docs improvement) to get familiar with the codebase.

I’d love any feedback on my approach. Happy to discuss the project further!

hi, sorry but I can’t find your proposal on the GSoC dashboard. Are you sure you submitted something?

Hi Hannah! Yes, I submitted my proposal on March 29 under the NumFOCUS umbrella organization. The title is “[matplotlib] Indirect Transforms: Reusable Positioning API” and my display name on the GSoC dashboard is “Parganiha”.

I also opened PR #31422 (legend docs improvement, fixes #26620) which was merged by timhoffm.

Please let me know if you still can’t locate it — happy to share the PDF directly!
