updating to PyGTK 2.6.2, my matplotlib installation stopped working.
is this correct? are there a fix for it? downgrade PyGTK?

PyGTK-2.6.2 just fixed a few bugs, according to their website. Some more
information would be helpful: What error messages are reported by Matplotlib?
