I got this to work, only issue left is the py2exe problem (see other post).
Looking through the matplotlib 0.87 doc (page 13) it mentioned that one should use an appropriate package for the numeric package one uses, but I can't see see these packages.
Is it that the doc is just a bit out of date?
FYI, the section 1.2 Numerix does also not mention numpy.
