Merging subplots (Was: Re: subplot(1, 1, [...]) and pprint_getters)

Hi,

ax2 = subplot(223)

OK, that one was kind of easy, but more generally, is there a simple solution to 'merge' some axes (beside doing it manually), like subplot(1,3,[1,2]) for:

or any more complex layout?

(maybe someone remember there was such a functionnality under SuperMongo! see SM)
