Compiling on Solaris

I am trying to compile matplotlib on Solaris, I have run into problems as below compiling the ft2fonts extension. Anyone know why?

What is /usr/lib/python2.4/pycc? Some sort of wrapper around the compiler? I don't have it on my Sun machine. I would start by looking at that to see what it's doing. It may not be passing the source file along to the compiler.

Looking at it, it describes itself as a script for running the C/C++ compiler when building python modules.
