Why is this member made public? I would have thought it should be “private”?
Wow. It definitely should be private, or at the very least excluded from the docs, through whatever mechanism Sphinx gives us. I really hope no one is using that as a public API -- I think it's ok to just privatize this post haste without a deprecation period.
