I found the following page on running Python using "parallel processing",
but I have no idea which one would be most compatible with matplotlib and
basemap.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I looked through the archives and it
looks like in 2009 at the conference there was a session on using mpi4py;
is that still the best option?
