I also have another problem with 0.87.
It is not using the my .matplotlib/matplotlibrc file in my home directory
when I print pylab.rcParams I see the defaults from
/library/frameworks/python.framework/versions/2.4/lib/python2.4/site-packages/matplotlib/mpl-data/matplotlibrc
in the matplotlibrc comments it says
# By default, the installer will overwrite the existing file in the
# install path, so if you want to preserve your's, please move it to
# your HOME dir and set the environment variable if necessary.
What environment variable is it talking about?
echo $HOME returns my home directory is there another one.
It worked fine in 0.86.2?
Any ideas?

I looks like it is finding my matplotlibrc file but is not using it at least in ipython because
none of my changes show up in pylab.rcParams.
